Fundamentals of Human Services Transportation: An Online Course

Course Goal: The goal of this course is to help you understand ways to develop and improve sustainable models of transportation services to meet the needs of older adults and people with disabilities.

Who should participate: Public, private, and non-profit transportation and human services providers, city/county employees, and anyone interested in learning strategies to improve human services transportation.

What will the course include: We have broken the course into six modules. Each module contains at least one video presentation on the selected topic and where needed, we have linked to outside resources and documents for reference. Each topic we explore is addressing a different aspect of the human services transportation field. The topics addressed in the course are as follows:

  1. A Framework for Understanding Humans Services Transportation
  2. Creating Accessible Transportation Systems
  3. Funding Community Transportation Systems (with a specific focus on FTA’s Section 5310 program)
  4. Inclusion: Planning and Operations of Human Services Transportation
  5. Coordination and Collaboration
  6. Technology and Transportation

Each module will have a linked discussion forum. This course is structured in such a way that your engagement is a key part of learning. We want you to draw on the content provided to help start a conversation, share resources, and provide support. These forums will be a place for discussion with other registered participants and you will be provided with thought questions for each module that will help prompt conversation.

This course is self-paced and while we will follow a weekly schedule when releasing content, you are free to move through the information on your own. The course will begin August 10.
