The course launched September 20.

Overview:

Approximately 3.6 million Americans miss medical appointments or delay care because they do not have access to proper transportation. Medical transportation is an important option for providing access to health care services for older adults and people with disabilities. According to the Eldercare Locator which connects older adults and caregivers to local support and resources, the top need for consumers is transportation assistance; 74% of those calls are individuals needing transportation to routine medical appointments. In this course, Medical Transportation: Multi-Model Approaches to Accessing Health Care Services, NADTC looks at transportation programs addressing the gaps in access to health care services in their community and how these programs play a key role in providing medical transportation services to older adults and people with disabilities. The course platform is Section 508 compliant and will include pre-recorded presentations, a discussion forum available to all course registrants, quizzes, and essential resources. The course is free, but you must register to access the course. The course is also self-paced: participants will need to meet the completion deadline but may watch the provided videos and complete the assignments on their own time.

Course registrants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about best practices and strategies in providing medical transportation to older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Gain a better understanding of funding and how programs approach coordination.
  • Learn about different approaches to operating and managing a medical transportation program.
