Bringing Mobility as a Service to the United States: Accessibility Opportunities and Challenges

According to the MaaS Alliance, “Mobility as a Service (MaaS) puts users, both travelers and goods, at the core of transport services, offering them tailor-made mobility solutions based on their individual needs. This means that, for the first time, easy access to the most appropriate transport mode or service will be included in a bundle of flexible travel service options for end users.” The development and deployment of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) systems in Europe has been increasing at a rapid rate over the past few years. However, in the U.S. during the same time frame, MaaS implementation has been limited. While there are no MaaS systems in the U.S., several systems are under development. This white paper describe the unique opportunities and challenges associated with MaaS in the U.S., along with describing a few of the systems that are under currently development.
