Volunteer driver programs have long been an affordable and efficient transportation service. They tend to be more flexible and can operate any time of the day, in any geography depending on the driver’s availability and preferences. With the onset of the pandemic in March of 2020, many volunteer driver programs stopped operations completely for the safety of the driver and rider.
This report summarizes the challenges and opportunities for volunteer driver programs during the pandemic and features some innovative ways to continue to serve those who rely on volunteer transportation programs.
